Digital Assets refer to the files, folders, systems developed for particular tasks, images, scanned copies, library codes, videos, etc. With the advent of the IT industry and keeping in view its dynamic growth the importance of Digital Asset management software has been ever increasing. Digital assets are also sometimes referred to as the content or media in binary form. Digital asset management is generally outsourced to third party vendors as they form a specialized business activity. They are mainly classified as Brand asset management systems, Library asset management systems, production asset management systems and digital supply chain services Each asset management system has its own area of application. These softwares are also sometimes classified as browsers softwares and cataloging softwares. Normal classification of these softwares is based on the type of storage used. These softwares should also have some additional functionality which gives its user the capability to perform functions as renaming stored digital files, backing up the content, grouping of similar media, classification based on various criteria, etc.

Many organizations have started adopting the use of these systems to develop digital data repository. Though these systems have huge challenges associated with their practical implementation, software firms have took the challenge to come up with efficient systems that have changed the outlook of the digital data industry.
